I found several YouTube videos explaining how vertical wind turbines work. These look like a valuable alternative to what most people think of as wind turbines today. Their small and don’t create a demand for space like a traditional horizontal wind turbine. This first example is pretty compact and I believe is the size of a large trashcan. Safe for children and pets and could even be lawn art for your gardens.
Here’s one that operates a little differently. It uses the vibration caused by moving air to generate power. It doesn’t appear to be extremely large and it’s not heavy because they need it to vibrate with low wind currents. It’s vertical so it doesn’t take up a lot of space either. You could put a whole row of these on a property and not lose much space.
The last example I’m going to post is something that can be mounted around a light pole along a roadway. I like the fact that they point out yeah 1 of these isn’t going to generate a huge amount of power. However if you lined a roadway with these you could have hundreds of them around a city generating power. Plus if these are along the road the traffic is going to help speed us the turbines which in turn will generate more power.
In our world we need to find more ways to generate power that don’t include burning fossil fuel. Something like this could be part of our solution. Not to mention the jobs that would be created in the manufacturing and maintenance of these new producers of electricity.
