Sunday Funday, sure let’s roll with that

Hey there, so today is Sunday and we’ve been under a shelter in place for over a week. So is it really Sunday funday? Sure, let’s roll with that and keep our wits about us.

After my last post, Coronavirus and Social Distancing I’ve been laying low and work has been keeping me busy.  I’ve been going out for walks twice a day.  My goal is always 11,000 steps but I got a little more than that most days with the route I take.

This week I received the new Suze Orman book The Ultimate Retirement Guide for 50+. I figured it would be good to expand my personal knowledge and maybe figure out some finances while we under this Shelter in Place. She’s providing some needed advice in our lives.  Many people aren’t getting a proper financial education.  They spend to much or spend on the wrong things.  Not to mention saving for the future.  Most americans can’t afford an unexpected $400 bill. So it’s good to learn and share some helpful tips and pointers.

I listen to Suse Orman’s podcast, Women and Money podcast as well and it’s really great. She provides some very common sense advice which always makes me feel a little better. She calls it as she see’s it and wants people to be financially secure. It may hurt to hear the truth (don’t I know it) but better to hear the truth and get yourself right side up than go down with the ship. I kind of feel like the world has lost sight of some common sense rationale with everything going on in the world. She’s been talking a lot about the stock market lately. The point I like is the market is always in a cycle and it may be down right now but it will head back up again. It just needs time.

I found this new show last night on Netflix. I watched 2 episodes and I thought it was pretty good. It’s kind of like the show Jack Ryan, except it is regarding South African and African politics. The show description on YouTube reads:

After the assassination of her mother, Queen Sono grows up to become a kick- ass yet unconventional spy devoted to protecting the people of Africa. During a dangerous field assignment, Queen unknowingly uncovers shocking details about her mother’s death, sparking her own truth-finding mission.

OK so this next show we started watching this last week and it was a little … off. Tiger King, Murder, Mayhem and Madness is a Netflix documentary. It’s this crazy in so many ways. However, it’s like a train wreck that you can’t stop watching. Really, you can’t believe you’re watching this and then something else happens that just tops the last thing you just thought couldn’t be topped. The show description is:

Among the eccentrics and cult personalities in the stranger-than-fiction world of big cat owners, few stand out more than Joe Exotic, a mulleted, gun-toting polygamist and country western singer who presides over an Oklahoma roadside zoo. Charismatic but misguided, Joe and an unbelievable cast of characters including drug kingpins, conmen, and cult leaders all share a passion for big cats, and the status and attention their dangerous menageries garner. But things take a dark turn when Carole Baskin, an animal activist and owner of a big cat sanctuary, threatens to put them out of business, stoking a rivalry that eventually leads to Joe’s arrest for a murder-for-hire plot, and reveals a twisted tale where the only thing more dangerous than a big cat is its owner.

Description on Netflix You Tube page

I hear a lot of people are getting what we called cabin fever after being indoors for winter. When there’s no freezing temperatures and snow it’s sunny outside it’s hard to not want to go out and spend time with friends and large groups. However, with the pandemic going on it’s for our own good and this too shall pass.

So I’ve been watching too much television probably but what else are you going to do after working your 40+ hour a week job, when you’re not supposed to leave your house, right? This week I’ll try to read my book and learn something new about my finances.

Stay safe out there everyone!
