Welcome
Hey everyone, I hope you’re doing well this week. This next week is Halloween and I’m curious if there’s going to be any trick or treaters. I’ll pick up some candy just in case. I might put the candy outside the door. That way everyone is safe.
New Podcast
I was out for my walk and I had a new podcast I found and decided to listen to this week. When you have Sean Hayes, Jason Bateman, and Will Arnett together how could it not be great! To be honest I don’t know that much about Will Arnett but Sean Hayes and Jason Bateman are both just hilarious.
I’ve mentioned Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman’s podcast Living and Learning. I listened to a couple episodes of their podcast this week and it’s just so great. I think people might be surprised at how down to earth Reba McEntire is in this podcast.
The second Living and Learning podcast I listened to is titled Aging with guest star Jane Fonda. Jane Fonda has been an activist for decades now and she’s going to be 83 years old.
Activism
I’ve mentioned the Poor People’s Campaign in a prior post. This is just something I think is so important for people to know about and embrace. The statistics about our American society are staggering. There’s so much disparity in our country.
We all know that there are people out there who struggle to make ends meet. However, what we don’t know is how many people are in that situation. You’ve probably heard the study that says 40% of households can’t afford an emergency $400 bill. Click here to read the article.
Four hundred dollars can just be replacing a cheap refrigerator or washing machine. Four hundred dollars is a small amount of money that could be many expenses for the average individual. If this is the case then why isn’t someone trying to fix this problem.
The Poor People’s Campaign has been fighting against these kinds of poverty. They started pulling together different statistics about the financial situations Americans are facing. This isn’t something most people are aware of or speak about at the dinner table. I’m surprised that Americans aren’t concerned about this topic.
One of the stats that the Poor People’s Campaign published in 2018 is that 38% of American households, primarily black or Latino families, have a net worth of zero dollars. To me that’s pretty shocking. Coming from a family of farmers this isn’t shocking.
If you think this is something that needs to be addressed go out and donate to their campaign. https://www.poorpeoplescampaign.org/donate/
EV (Electric Vehicles)
If you’ve been on social media lately you might have seen the new Hummer that GMC. This is interesting for a couple of reasons. First GMC put the Hummer to bed a couple of years ago. Now they are bringing it out and dusting it off in a way to compete with other automotive manufacturers. When they bring this new truck out it will go for approximately $112,000 for the first model.
It looks cool but here’s the problem. Most Americans can’t afford that kind of money. If you could afford that kind of money you would be investing in a luxury EV. I’m sure they would say this is a luxury EV but if you put this up against a Mercedes or the New Lucid EV it’s not going to compete. For that kind of money, it’s more of a luxury toy than a practical daily vehicle for people.
From my point of view, they aren’t reading the room. Americans need an affordable EV truck that has good performance. Automotive manufactures have been dragging their feet on the development of electric vehicles. Did you know one of the first Automobiles was an electric car?
The first electric car in the United States was developed in 1890-91 by William Morrison of Des Moines, Iowa; the vehicle was a six-passenger wagon capable of reaching a speed of 23 kilometres per hour (14 mph). Wikipedia

Wrap up
So that’s just some items going on in our world and my head. I’ve been checking out some new shows on TV. I’ll provide some insight into those soon. If you’re interested check out my prior post My pandemic life of distraction where I talk about some of the shows I’m watching.
Be safe, wear a mask, wash your hands and practice social distancing. The Pandemic is going to go on for several months. I know no one wants to hear that but even after they find a vaccine they’ll need to manufacture and distribute the vaccine. That’s going to take some time. Even after all that virus will still be around.
Just to recap; be safe, wear a mask, wash your hands, and practice social distancing. For more information check out the CDC or WHO websites.
