Things have been crazy lately, right?
We’re facing a pandemic that has halted our lives and economy. People are protesting after black men and women are killed. The wildfires out in the western part of the United States. The multiple hurricanes that keep coming onto our shores. Then Ruth Bader Ginsburg died this week.
With all that going on there’s no empathy or guidance from our President. Many Americans are in dire need of help and compassion but that doesn’t look like it’s coming from our government in the near future. Some say as many as 30 million Americans are unemployed at one point.
WIth all that going on maybe we live in the multiverse. Maybe there’s a universe where Hillary Clinton won the 2016 election. With everything going on it almost makes you wish that something like that exist.
Art imitates life
Did any of you see the HBO series The Watchmen? It’s using the Watchmen graphic novel as a basis. The series takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in an alternate timeline post the 1921 Tulsa race massacre. That’s a real thing (1921 Tulsa race massacre). Did you know that? That historical event wasn’t taught in my history classes. I’ve heard the saying that history is written by the winners but wow did this one throw me for a loop. There was so much senseless violence in the Tulsa race massacre. It makes my mind spin because I just don’t understand that kind of violence. I can’t see any reason for that kind of behavior. To have such fear over people just because they don’t look like you. shocking…
Wrap up
Back in my post Using Headspace to meditate I speak about the additional stress this year has brought. In the Portland metro area this last week the area was covered in smoke from the forest fires. The smoke was thick enough that it blocked out the sun. It was rough after a week of that but then the winds changed and rain came into the area. Today the skies are more visible and you can see actual clouds. For this, I’m grateful and focus on what we have in our lives. I’m very lucky and fortunate for all that I have in life.
Everyone take care and be grateful for all things big and small in your lives. It’s easy to loose sight of the good in life.
