Good morning, it’s a beautiful Sunday morning and I am happy to be up and moving forward with my life. That’s what made me think of this blog post. Have you ever heard someone say “only boring people are boring”? There are so many things around us every day to do and explore. I currently live in a tourist destination but even earlier in my life, I could find places to explore and things to do to entertain and educate myself. It’s kind of a mindset I guess. I’m not sure exactly how I came about it but I think it’s served me well.
A great example of this was yesterday when I didn’t have any firm plans. So we decided to drive up the coast. I’ve done it before but this time we took a different route home. It’s such a stunning drive along the ‘cliffs’ on the coast. Then we came into an area of rolling hills used for pasture. The area is known for small-batch cheesemakers. You’ll find cow, goat and sheep farmers who are making cheese and other dairy products in the area. If you’d like more information on that, go to https://cheesetrail.org/ for more details. This area is adjacent to the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma. So you can make a great weekend of the whole trip and have great cheese and wine.
Tip you will want to check whether the farm is open to the public because some of the farms aren’t open to public visits.
While driving along the coast a gem tucked away is the Muir Beach Overlook. This location is a National Recreation area in California. While at the site you can explore several historic base-end stations, observation posts that were part of the San Francisco Bay coastal defense system. Not only are there amazing views but you can see a piece of history. Living here in California I’ve seen a couple of different locations like this wherein our country’s history we’ve sawt to protect our borders.
In doing small things like this your not focused on yourself but your surroundings. There’s so much to our world and so many things to see and learn. Example: The community of farmers focusing on dairy products or the amazing views of the Northern California coastline. You would never know it by just driving down the road. You have to invest time and yourself to see the bigger picture and learn about what’s around you. With the internet today there is no excuse for not being able to find these things. A lot of times these kinds of things are passed on by word of mouth but we could also ask our friends if they have recommendations. If nothing else you can always try searching the internet for these kinds of sites and activities.
The other thing you can do is look deep inside and define your dreams. I have to say my life today is far different than when I was a kid or even a college student. I’ve always looked to the future. I try to think about what comes next. That could mean a LOT of things to you. It could mean professionally, personally or even posthumously. How about that, 3 Ps you can define and strive towards in life.
Here’s an example from my own life. Today I’ve been thinking about my future in terms of career, the car I drive and where I’ll be living. In terms of career, there are some possible training and certifications that could really benefit me. I don’t know the timing on this yet but I think it’s this year. I’ve been checking out when the training is happening and how much it’s going to cost. This certification would open up a lot of different opportunities. It could even translate into a little bit of a retirement gig when I get to that point in my life. There’s a lot there to consider but none of it seems to have a drawback. It’s just making myself available at the right time.
My car desire is based on celebrating my success in life. I tend to be a little financially conservative. I’m not going out and buying a Lamborghini. It’s not a mid-life crisis rather just a pat on the back for doing a good job. It’s a material thing and I know that those don’t always bring happiness. That being said it would feel pretty good to drive a luxury car. Those cars are made for performance and comfort. At the end of the day, I already acknowledge that after driving that luxury car for a couple of years I’ll more than likely be ready to go back to a Toyota. I say that because I’m practical about most things. I drive a Toyota now and I love my car.
In terms of where I’ll be living well, that’s always something I think about. I have some crazy dreams about living abroad or having 2 homes in 2 different temperate areas.
So if you’re looking to improve your life try these 3 thing. It’s not garunteed to solve your problems but it should help make the path easier and bring you some direction in life.
- Be passionate about something bigger than yourself to inspire growth.
- Be proactive about your dreams by stopp waiting and get started.
- Be patient with people by giving them the care and love that you want to receive from others.
We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.
